Okean Elzy tickets + iTunes gift card = One happy girl!

As my younger self would have said, “It’s on like Donkey Kong!” (I’m not exactly sure what that means - I may need a refresher in 1980’s slang.)

Those tickets were really expensive, but SOOOOO worth it. (But REALLY? $80 for general admission?)

I really love the fact that we’re going to Ukraine this fall, but 2017 is pushing hard to earn the title of “Best Year EVER!” Between tickets to see OE in NYC, we’re going to London to see “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”.

I don’t know if I’ve said this here, but I was unemployed for a year back in 2013. As a result, I learned how to budget like a pro. I’ve been saving like a mad woman in order to have fun and now all that work has paid off. Of course, we’ll be completely broke when we return from London - well, technically, we’re broke now because both trips have already been paid for - but it’s totally worth it.

I’m also going to NJ in November for a thing - it’s a genealogical conference of sorts and they’re going to have a special section on Polish/Russian/Ukrainian/Latin linguistics. I’ve already decided that I’m going to ‘cheat’ on Ukrainian a little bit at some point during this summer and do a lesson or two of Polish - kind of to cleanse the palate and kind of to get a different take on Ukrainian. Svetlana is also a native Russian speaker, so I’m going to have her take an hour (or two) and go over some basic Russian I may hear when we’re in Lviv.

Speaking of Svetlana, after I gave her my good news, we broke down the lyrics to my (current) favourite OE song, I’ve already done this on my own, of course, but it was fun to do it with her.

Here’s the official OE video (lyrics version):

Life is Starting Again

You are starting my day at dawn
Like an unrestrained summer rain
You are an orange juice for breakfast,
On a photo where you are dressed in a bright raincoat.
You are flying into my window at lunchtime,
Along with the wind, that is calling the Spring
The new one, again…
A dark hair of a strange lady in a cafe
That’s an evening greeting from you.
A phrase in the cinema in the final minute
It leaves an unexpected trail.
And you haven’t left a free space
in the life of mine
Your… weapon…

Somewhere in the ocean of events
Somewhere on the height of my dreams
Somewhere where love reigns
I feel like my heart is singing,
Like with you by my side
life is starting again…
is starting again…

There’s a place I can hear the faint sound of radio,
The near and dear words.
But here, because of that laughter afar
my head is spinning.
And every moment it seems that I notice
As fate gives me a sign
Again and again…

Somewhere in the ocean of events
Somewhere on the height of my dreams
Somewhere where love reigns
I feel like my heart is singing,
Like with you by my side
life is starting again…
is starting again…(x3)
